Ruth Roman was born on June 22nd, 1939, in Lynn Massachusetts. She is the youngest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. At the age of five, her carnival barker father passed away and left her mother without a choice other than to become a cleaner woman and waitress to feed the family. Ruth was raised in the poor Boston tenement community in Massachusetts. She went to school there. After only two school years the young woman left to pursue the acting career. There were many hurdles to overcome on the path she chose to pursue. In New York she was hired to pose for photos for a publication about crime, but no theatrical job opportunities came up. Then in NYC, she worked at a bar as an entry-point girl, before quitting after a few months and moving to Boston. It was there that she earned a living working as an usherette during the day, and at night performing with the New England Repertory Company. This was her very first job as an actor. She been accepted into Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she was a drama student.
